For the first-time visitors:
- This is the 'Chart Navi' that enables the user to search any paper nautical charts and/or ENCs issued
by the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) for use in navigating in and around the Japanese waters.
- With this Chart Navi, you can search and retrieve information on paper charts and ENCs
which cover the routes, ports and harbours and their approaches.
- You can edit your intended routes and store their data. These data may be reread and reedited.
- You can download the list of retrieved charts and may use the list as a purchase order.
How to use this website
Search the charts on your route
By setting the ports of departure and arrival on the List or on the Map, you can search and retrieve charts
on your original route.
Select the departure and arrival ports from the List
- Select each port of departure and arrival, respectively.
- For the areas in Japan, select names of ports.
- For areas other than Japan, select from among countries?f names, continent names (Europe, Africa, etc.), region names, and port names.
- By selecting "Country / Continent" and "Region / Country", you can narrow down "Port / Region".
- By clicking the "Set the ports of departure and arrival and show the route" button, the route will appear on the Google Map.
- If two or more routes are shown, select a desired route.
- In such a case where a route is not set in advance, the route will be a straight line connecting the ports of departure and arrival.
You may set or edit your own appropriate route (for route editing, see "Route Editing Steps").
Select the ports of departure and arrival on the map
To move to the detailed map, click the area of "Port of Departure" or "Port of Arrival".
(For ports other than in Japan, click "For areas other than Japan".)

Select the ports of departure and arrival on the Google Map.

- Click the "Port Name" to display a pop-up menu.
- By clicking "Set Port of Departure" or "Set Port of Arrival",
the balloon help will appear on the "Name of Port" and the port name will be given to the box on its right hand side.
- By changing the map scale, number of "Name of Port" marks will increase and decrease.
- If there is no "Name of Port" mark, a pop-up menu will appear by clicking any point on the screen, and the Lat.
and Long. on the point will be input in the box on its right hand side.
Shifting on the Map and Changing Map Scales
- To shift the Map coverage, hold down the left click button and move the mouse.
- To change the map scale, change the scale on the scale bar shown on the upper-left corner.
- Double-click to zoom in.
Search for Foreign Port Names
- To select foreign port names, click the "For areas other than Japan".
Cancellation of Selections (Part 1)
- To clear selections, click the "Port Name" mark or the balloon to get the pop-up menu.
- Click the "Clear Selections" button to cancel the selections.
Cancellation of Selections (Part 2)
- You can also cancel the selections by clicking the "Clear Selections" button which is shown below the box
with the names of the departure and arrival ports.
Display of Routes
- After setting the "Port of Departure" and "Port of Arrival", respectively, click the "Set the ports of departure and arrival and show the route" button.
- Click the button to show a route on the Google Map.
- If two or more routes are shown, select your desired route.
- In such a case where a route is not set in advance, the route will be a straight line connecting the ports of departure and arrival.
You may set or edit your own appropriate route (for route editing, see "Route Editing Steps").

- If there are two or more routes available, click a point on the route line of the targeted route.
- The selected route will be rimmed with white lines.
- By clicking the "Select a route" button after selection is completed, a selected route will be shown on the Google Map.
Search the charts on the fixed routes
You can search and retrieve the charts on the route which has been selected from major routes in Seto Naikai and/or coastal areas in Japan.
Select a fixed route from the list
- Click the name of a sea area.
- Select one of the major routes shown, and the selected route will be shown on the Google Map.
Select a fixed route on the map
Click the "ROUTE" icon to display the route name in a pop-up window.
- Click the "Route Name" to show a route on the Google Map.
Search the charts in and approaches to the port
By selecting a Japanese port (any of Important Ports and Specified Ports stipulated by the Port & Harbors Act
and Act on Port Regulations, respectively, and other ports), charts covering the port and its approaches can be searched and retrieved.
For search of paper charts, harbour plans and coast charts covering the selected port and its approaches will mainly be targeted; for ENC,
those cells of Coastal, Approach and Harbour in navigational purposes will be targeted.
Select a port from the list
- Click each line of Japanese syllabary order to show the appropriate "Port Name".
- Select "Port Name" from the List to show charts on the Google Map.
Select a port on the map
- Click an area to move to the Detailed Map.
- Click the "Port Name" mark to show chart coverage on the Google Map.
(For Details)
Select a port on the Google Map.
- Click the "Port Name" mark to show chart coverage on the Google Map.
- The number of the "Port Name" marks will increase or decrease with the change depending on a map scale.
Search the charts by Chart No. or Title
Search the charts by inputing Chart No. or Title into text box.
- Input the keywords such as Chart No. or Title into text box.
- * If you want to search paper charts by chart number, please input all numbers. However the words "JP", "W" or "FW" are omissible.
- * If you want to search ENC, please input all cell number of 8-digit. (ex: JP14CCPC)
- * You can search charts by only a part of chart/cell title.
- * If you want to search by two or more keywords, please insert a space between each keyword.
- Click the Searching Icon, the paper charts or ENC are displayed on a google map.
Read-in of route retrieved
Charts can be searched and retrieved by reading-in the data of the stored routes in this "Chart Navi".
See the following for how to store.
This search function may be convenient to search charts frequently for those who have a regular route.
- Click the "Reference" button to select a file.
- After the File Name is input, click the "Fixed" button to show the route on the Google Map.
- A read operation can be made on the screen below.
Route edit / store
Function Setting
- Click the "Reediting waypoints on the route" button to make waypoints, etc. move.
- Click and drag waypoints, etc. to alter a route.
- Click the "Deleting waypoints on the route" button to delete waypoints, etc.
- Click each unnecessary waypoint to delete them. At least two or more points are required.
- See the following for further details on route editing steps.
Read-in of route retrieved
- Each route which has been stored beforehand can be displayed on the Map.
In this case, the routes currently shown on the Map will be deleted.
- Click the "Reference" button to select a file.
- After the File Name has been input, click the "Fixed" button to display the route on the Google Map.
Store route data retrieved
- Click the "Store route data retrieved" button to store the created data in any folder.
Fix the Route
- Click the "Fix the Route" button to move to the screen for selection of charts on the route.
Cancel
- Click the "Cancel" button to back to the previous screen.
Selection of Charts (from "Route Search")
A list will be shown as a result of search and retrieval, listing with respect to each type of paper charts
(harbour plans, coast charts, etc.) and each navigational purpose of ENC cells.
The coverage of each ENC cell marked with a tick will be shown on the Map.

- Click the chart number tab to switch from a chart to another if the coverage of two or more charts are overlapped.

- Click the "Details" button to see and confirm details of the chart in another window.
Setting of Charts to be displayed on the Map
- The type of a paper chart or the navigational purpose of ENC to which a tick mark is given in the box will be displayed on the Map.
- With the first results of search and retrieval for charts covering areas in Japan,
General Charts and Sailing Charts will not be shown and for areas other than Japan "General Charts" will not be shown.
Place tick marks in the box on the list, if required, to show those charts (for paper charts only).
Search for Non-listed Charts
- By placing a tick mark on the "Non-listed Charts", the coverage of the charts not retrieved will be shown on the Map.
- This function is convenient to confirm those charts which are off the route.
- Click the frame of a chart on the Map to show a pop-up menu.
- The chart number and title of the chart will be shown on the menu.
- Click the "Details" button to see and confirm details of the chart in another window.
- Click the "Add List" button to add the chart in the List and the coverage of the chart will disappear.
- Remove the tick mark in the "Non-listed Charts" to go back to the previous display. The coverage of the newly added charts,
if any, will be shown.

- Click the chart number and title to colourize the coverage of the chart on the Map.
- Place a tick mark in the box to select charts and to show the coverage of the selected chart on the Map.
- Click again and remove the tick mark to cancel the selections. The coverage of the selected charts will disappear.
- Click the "Details" button by the Chart Name to see and confirm details of the chart in another window.
- The Chart Names marked with "
" denote that those charts
are designated under the Maritime Traffic Safety Law.

- All the entries of the List can be changed all together collectively, and the coverage of each chart on the Map
is also changed at the same time.

for the route you have set.

Check at Map
- Click the "Check at Map" button to see and confirm each chart coverage on the Map.
Display Switching
- You can switch the selected charts list. Nothing will be shown if not fix the selection.
Quantity of charts (for paper charts)
- A total of 20 paper charts can be retrieved at a maximum.
Deletion of charts
- Click the "Delete" button to delete from the List.
Continue Search
- By clicking the "Continue Search" button, you can proceed with searching other routes and ports, the List not being cleared.
- In this case, even if a selected chart is the same as that already selected, the chart will not be added in the List redundantly.
Clear the List
- To delete all the charts from the List, click the "Clear the List" button.
Download the List
- Click the "Download" button to download the chart list in CSV format.
- You may use the downloaded list as an order sheet for purchasing charts from our distributors.
Selection of Licensing Term (Period) (For ENC cells)
- You can select one of the ENC licencing term of 3, 6, 9, or 12 months.

You can see and confirm, on the Map, the charts listed on the List.
Display Switching
- You can switch the selected charts list. Nothing will be shown if not fix the selection.
Operational Steps on the List
- By clicking the chart number and title, the area covered by the said chart will be colourized on the Map.
- Click the "Details" button located next to the "Chart Title" to see and confirm details on the chart.
- Click the "Delete" button to delete from the List.
Back to the List
- Click the "Back to List" button to back to the List.
